Recognize That Pressure Isn’t Okay

It’s natural for your friends and family to have strong opinions about your unplanned pregnancy, and some may come from shock or care for your well-being; however, it’s important to understand the difference between support and pressure.

If you are feeling pushed and rushed into making a decision, then these are signs that you are being pressured. Pressure can come in forms such as repeated opinions, ultimatums, and guilt.

Usually, if your intuition feels as if you’re being pressured, you should take a step back from these people so you can process your own thoughts and feelings.

If you ever feel unsafe or threatened, you should reach out to the National Domestic Violence Hotline right away. In the case of an emergency, call 911.

Take a Step Back

Creating space emotionally and physically from people who are pressuring you is the next step.

You could try journaling or seeking support from someone you trust to try to get clarity surrounding your pregnancy. It may also look like taking time to be alone, reflecting, and limiting conversations with anyone who is pressuring you.

Learn About All Your Options

When you are in a calmer, grounded headspace, it is a good idea to get as informed as possible about your pregnancy so you can feel confident in your decision.

We suggest taking a pregnancy test and getting an ultrasound to verify your pregnancy if you haven’t already. This will give you accurate information about your pregnancy, which can influence your options and help you better understand your health.

Take time to understand your options: parenting, adoption, and abortion. We offer free options counseling for all three options, so you can know the risks and understand which option feels most appropriate for your situation. These facts can help you feel informed about your decision and confident explaining your choices to your friends or family.

We do not pressure or judge you; we are here to give you the facts and support you deserve.
